ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I

LESSON 7

Enantiomers & Chirality

Why can two molecules that look almost identical behave completely differently in the body? In this lesson, we’ll explore enantiomers and chirality—the molecular version of left- and right-handedness. We’ll learn how mirror-image molecules are related, distinguish chiral from achiral structures, examine why chirality matters in biological systems, and develop a practical method for assigning R and S configurations to stereocenters.
